Garden 20/6: 100 species, highlights were Plutella xylostella, Prays fraxinella, Batrachedra pinicolella (NFG), Amlyptilia punctidactyla, Epermenia chaerophylella, Acleris schalleriana, Anania lancealis, Anania crocealis (NFG), Nomophila noctuella, Peach Blossom, Blue-bordered Carpet, Phoenix (2), Swallow-tailed Moth, Beautiful Hook-tip (2), Purple Clay and Green Silver-lines.
Also on the night of the 20th, I helped Nigel Spring run traps in Portesham school. Of course this produced 3 species which I've never had in my garden (which is literally a two minute walk away from the school)! These were Marasmarcha lunaedactyla, Phtheochroa sodalina (which was also the first I've seen), and Lead Belle (also a species I've looked for quite a lot at Hardys, but only ever seen in Wales). Other highlights were Ghost Moth, Cydia fagiglandana, Anania lancealis, Figure of Eighty, Purple Bar, Swallow-tailed Moth, Beautiful Hook-tip, Silver Y, and several Shark. By day on the 17th June, Tenaga nigripunctella was pretty notable - my third here in the last 4 years. The first was found indoors (though the window was wide open), the second in the shed, and this one now inside the summer house. I wonder what the larvae are feeding on.

The best night this year so far with 60 species including Buff Arches, Drinker, Common Emerald, Figure of Eighty, Sandy Carpet, Green Arches, Four-dotted Footman, Foxglove Pug. Best night of the year to date: 230 individuals of 70 species (with more to sort out). 12/06: Netting from Portesham to Hardys Monument produced 42 species, highlights were a Ghost Moth lek on Portesham hill (comprising of over 60 individuals in total, was in a different field to those I've checked in previous years), Satin Wave, July Belle, Silver Y and a Shark.

Excellent weekend attending moth (and butterfly) course lead by David Brown at Kingcombe. Morning session went through 5 traps around Kingcombe centre. 91 species of macro moth in two days. Some evidence of migration on Saturday night with Dark sword grass, bordered straw and pearly underwing.
Evening session going through 5 pugs that we caught was very useful (valerian, grey, mottled, foxglove and melanic form of green).

A mothing event organised by Nigel Spring of Butterfly Conservation took place on Sat 27 / Sun 28 May. Following a clear start to a still night, cloud increased making more favourable conditions with a minimum overnight temperature of 8.3 degC.
